Unfortunately, pro bike racing can't escape the bad press of doping scandals, the latest being the positive results of delayed drug testing from the 2008 Tour de France. Bernard Kohl of Gerolsteiner, 3rd overall and King of the Mountains, has admitted to cheating and thus will be removed from the results. Denis Menchov of Rabobank would then move up to 3rd place overall.
Canadian Olympian and 6 time National MTB Champion Marie-Helen Premont has announced she will not retire, but rather contest the 2009 World Cup series. Premont won the overall UCI World Cup series in 2008, but had initially decided to concentrate on her Pharmacy studies instead of defending her title. She is now explaining that her sponsors were very supportive of the idea to continue to race, and that she didn't want to retire after her best season ever.
