Why do you ride?
Because I love being outdoors and thrive on the challenge.
Describe the best day you've had on a bike.
It has to be CrossVegas 2015. It was my first Elite Women World Cup Cyclocross race. I was the youngest person in a field of 45 women. Many of the biggest names in Cyclocross were there. Katerina Nash (Czech Republic), Katie Compton (USA), Sanne Cant (Belgium), Catharine Pendrel (Canada) and Eva Lechner (Italy). Catharine even invited me to pre-ride the course with her. No words to describe how amazing that was. The crowds were huge and the engery of the race was nothing I've ever experienced. I had no UCI points, therefore I was the very last callup. It was a tough race, with much of it spent on spongy energy sapping grass. My goal was to not get lapped and pulled from the race. I placed 33rd overall and finished on the lead lap. That was such an incredible experience and I would absolutely love to do it all again in 2016. Chris Check from Pedalhead Edmonton and Alex Bautista from Pedalhead Calgary were my pit crew. It was such a reassurance knowing they were there if I had ran into trouble.
What's your nickname?
Squirrel - My coach gave me the name, because when I started I was quiet and very small.
What's your favourite local trail?
The sections of single-track trails at the North end of Millcreek ravine on the West side. I don't know the trail names, but I love ripping at full gas through those flowy rooty single-track trails.
What's the best advice you've received?
Before a race, check that your pedals are on tight.
Who inspires you?
Definitely Catharine Pendrel. She's an amazing cyclist and all around great person to have representing our sport.
